Parrott, Pemberton leave teams after final race PDF Print E-mail

Lee Spencer, FOXsports.com

MIAMI - Two popular crew chiefs parted ways with their teams on Monday.

Todd Parrott, a second-generation racer with more than two decades of racing experience, was released from Yates Racing after leading the historic yet underfunded No. 28 Ford and driver Travis Kvapil to a 23rd-place finish in the point standings. The team finished seventh at Homestead on Sunday, the pair's fourth top-10 since joining forces at Daytona in February.

Parrott, son of former Roush crew chief Buddy Parrott, joined Robert Yates Racing as a crew chief in 1995. Parrott, 44, partnered with Dale Jarrett in 1996, and the duo won four races with the No. 88 Ford, including the Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400. The following season Parrott and Jarrett went on to score seven victories before winning the title together in 1999.

Ryan Pemberton is expected to reunite with his friend and former boss Jay Frye at Team Red Bull. Pemberton, 39, spent this year working with David Reutimann and the No. 44 Toyota after weathering the MB2 Motorsports buyout and the Ginn Racing/Dale Earnhardt Inc. merger last fall. The Pemberton-led crew won the pole at Homestead and finished 20th on Sunday after running out of gas. The No. 44 Toyota topped the Michael Waltrip Racing entries with a 22nd-place finish in Sprint Cup points.

Should the deal go through, a decision regarding Pemberton's role will be announced by Team Red Bull.

Neither decision had to do with economic factors and are not part of the industry-wide layoffs that have begun to take place. FOXSports.com is working to verify the details on firings across the sport.
